Hey there, I’m Melodie Murray – fitness and meal planning specialist. I firmly believe each of us has what it takes to transform our bodies and minds to accomplish great things. And that includes YOU!
You just need to start with small steps and simple strategies.
Maybe you want to lose weight, tone your body or become an energizer bunny.
But honestly, who has the time?! You are probably juggling a job, kids and countless other obligations. Who has time to become fit?
Actually, YOU do!
You are important and deserve to be healthy and happy. Start becoming a priority in your life!
You know when you are on a plane and the flight attendant goes through the emergency procedures. Notice they tell you to place your oxygen mask on before helping someone else, even your child? There’s a very good reason – if you don’t look after yourself first, you may not be able to help others.
This is the same thing here. You need to be a priority to you!
Your kids deserve a mom who can run around with them, race them to the car, climb a flight of stairs with ease and play a mean game of tag – all without gasping for air or pulling a muscle.
They also deserve to see and experience what it means to eat a healthy diet by seeing you set an amazingly positive example everyday. It’s not enough for us to just tell our kids what they should or shouldn’t eat, or tell them they need to be outside moving – WE NEED to do it too.
And I know what it’s like being a kid and living in a house full of junk food that I could eat whenever I wanted.
Growing up in the prairies of Canada, every few months my family would pile into the station wagon and head south of the border into the USA to stock up on the latest and greatest processed foods. I LOVED it! Cocoa Puff and Count Chocula cereals, chips of all flavours, cheese in a can (yeah, that was my dad’s favourite), and any other food in a can or a box that we couldn’t buy back home.
As you can imagine, these crazy shopping sprees shaped my early eating habits and my chubby childhood while creating my lifelong battle (aka addiction) against sugar-laden foods.
But worse, I watched both of my parent go through terrible life ending experiences that can be attributed to their lifestyles. My mom, who was always a healthy weight but completely out of shape, got breast cancer and didn’t survive, dying when I was only 13 years old.
My dad ended up with Type II diabetes and over 30 years slowly disintegrated right before my eyes. He refused to change his lifestyle habits no matter how horrible he felt. Both of these losses inspired me to do better for my own kids.
I know it can be tough to commit to true change but I promise you, once you do you will start feeling and looking better then ever.
Since having my kids, I have struggled along the way. It finally clicked for me when I realized I needed to take control – not just of the foods I ate and the activity I did but my MIND.
It was holding me back. My own food addictions always derailed my efforts and made me feel like a total loser.
Once I finally gained control over my mind, the rest fell into place!
Now it’s your time to stop overcomplicating things and start with the basics. They work – eat real food, keep added sugar to a minimum, move your body, drink plenty of water and get enough sleep.
I know what you are probably thinking, “sure, easy for you to say but I’ve tried EVERYTHING and NOTHING works”.
Maybe you have tried a lot of things but have you really tried making changes that you can live with…forever? Have you given your body a chance to figure out and adapt to your new way of eating healthy foods? Is your mind holding you back just like mine did for me?
I know you can gain control and become the active, energetic diva you were always meant to be.
Stop waiting and start living!
Jumpstart your journey to living a life that doesn’t stop you from living a full life and having fun. You and your kids deserve it.
Yours in fitness and strength,
